This May, the City of Raleigh is celebrating National Bike Month!
Established in 1956 and promoted by the League of American Bicyclists, National Bike Month has been celebrated in communities from coast to coast.
Open to everyone, the City of Raleigh’s FREE Bike Month events encourage new riders by showcasing the many benefits of biking, such as enjoying the outdoors and using active transportation options to commute. Whether you’re an experienced cyclist or just starting, join us for one of our fun events listed below.
Cross Something Off Your Bike-It List at Raleigh Parks
Saturday May 1 to Sunday May 9
Join us to explore Raleigh Parks by bike from May 1 – 9 and receive a Commute Smart Raleigh Bike Fun Pack! Find decorated bike racks at
one of 10 participating Raleigh Parks centers and share a photo on social media. Then, visit a Community Center staff member to claim a Bike Fun Pack after showing your social media post. Supplies limited. Learn more.
Try a Citrix Cycle Bikeshare E-bike
Sundays in May, 1 – 3 pm
Every Sunday in May from 1 – 3 pm, join us for a FREE Citrix Cycle ride on a new bike facility. Learn from City staff how biking is safe and convenient while riding an e-bike from the City’s Citrix Cycle bikeshare program. Ride on a new bike lane located at Walnut Creek Wetland Center, Sierra Drive, Gateway Plaza and Union Station.? Select a date to register!

Virtual Bike Yoga Wednesdays
Wednesdays in May, 12 – 12:30 pm
Join us for yoga for cyclists! Local yoga instructors teach stretches and strength techniques for cyclists every Wednesday from noon to 12:30 pm. Reservations requested!

Intro to Better Biking – A Commute Smart Raleigh Virtual Event

Visit the Bike Month Mural at Raleigh Union Station
Commute Smart Raleigh, Raleigh Union Station and Raleigh Arts have teamed up to commission a local artist to paint a mural at the Raleigh Union Station bike racks. The mural reflects the multi-modal connectivity of bike and rail and is meant to inspire the joy of cycling.
