Same route, different weekday. As most of you probably know, there have been two Thursday evening rides — this one in RTP and one led by Kat Adcock in west Raleigh. As most of you probably also know, the ride that started at Woodcroft Shopping Center every Monday evening is no more, because Dawn Bardon and Jim van Welzen recently moved away. So we’re moving the RTP ride to Mondays to smooth out the team’s weekly schedule. I realize this first one is on Labor Day and that attendance may be sparse, but a guy can hope…
This route snakes through corners of Wake, Durham, and Chatham Counties, RTP, some residential neighborhoods, and a short quasi-rural stretch. And here it is as a PDF: https://chrisbagley.files.wordpress.com/2019/05/cue-sheet-thursday-with-little.pdf .
We’ll aim to have two or three pace groups, depending on attendance–one in the 14-15 range, one around 16.5, and one at 18+. There will be a designated sweep so that no one gets left on the course. It is important, however, that you be able to hold a 13 mph average over moderately hilly terrain.
Obey all traffic laws. While the ride leaders aren’t going to police absolute full stops, as the law requires, we can’t have riders rolling through stop signs or red lights at more than 1 mph. If drivers see us doing this, it makes cyclists look bad and gives drivers an excuse to take risks with our lives. Do not contribute to this dynamic.
After the ride, we’ll head over to Randy’s, Mez, Chipotle, or wherever we can get consensus.
