Join us for bikes and beer at Doherty’s in Apex (not Cary)!
This will be a 39-mile ride over moderately hilly roads around Harris Lake and Jordan Lake, including a sustained climb on Pea Ridge Road. Traffic should be a bit lighter than on most of our recent weekend rides since we’ll be getting out further from the Triangle’s urban core. Here’s the map in Google Maps: https://tinyurl.com/DohertysApexLakeRide3 , or let me know if you’d prefer to “roll” on this route: https://tinyurl.com/2fcpre6 . I may not have cue sheets, so I recommend printing your own or following the directions below on your smart phone.
If we end up with ten or more people, we’ll probably have two pace groups — one in the 15-16 mph range and one at 17-18 mph. Regardless, please stay together in group(s), because this is a group ride (NOT A RACE). If you’re lucky enough to be in Chris Mayes’s pace group, he’ll tell you “good game” when you rotate off the front.
I’m not sure we’ll have a designated sweep, so let’s make a point of exchanging cell phone numbers before we roll out of the parking lot.
We’ll gather back at Doherty’s, a valued On Draft sponsor, for beer and boxtys after the ride!
As always, bring two bottles of water, a spare tube, and a hand pump or a CO2 cartridge. Helmets are mandatory. Compliance with traffic laws is also mandatory. We shouldn’t be giving drivers any excuse to take risks with our lives.
Be in the parking lot and ready to go at 8:30. We will roll at 8:35 a.m. sharp so we can beat the heat.
