Thursday evening RTP ride

May 2 @ 6:15 pm - 8:30 pm

I’m looking forward to starting up the Thursday RTP ride again. It will be a couple of weeks later than the other weeknight rides. Apologies for that–I’ve been slammed at work.

I am also still in the process of deciding the starting point and testing routes. Here are a few options.

http://tinyurl.com/MezThursday (same starting point as last year; slightly different route)

https://tinyurl.com/YatesStoreLoop and in Wahoo/Garmin form via https://ridewithgps.com/routes/27913852 . (exactly the same as the second half of last season)

A 21-mile route that starts at the intersection of Davis and McCrimmon: http://tinyurl.com/VivaYatesStore

A shorter version of that: http://tinyurl.com/VivaGLC. I don’t know how I feel about this section of GLC. If you ride or drive on it regularly, then please tell me what you think.

An even shorter version that avoids GLC: http://tinyurl.com/VivaYatesShort.

You’ll probably need to use a desktop or laptop to view these. Your smartphone probably won’t pick up all the waypoints, so the route will appear shorter than it actually is.

****************************Let me know what you think!********************** Please feel free to e-mail me or, better yet, post a comment below! I’ll be doing one or two test runs on weekday evenings, and one or two on the weekends between now and May 2, so please also let me know if you’d like to join me.

As before, I anticipate having three pace groups, depending on attendance–one in the 14-15 range, one around 16.5, and one at 18+. There will be a designated sweep so that no one gets left on the course. It is important, however, that you be able to hold a 13 mph average over moderately hilly terrain.

Please be prepared to obey all traffic laws. While the ride leaders aren’t going to police absolute full stops, as the law requires, we can’t have riders rolling through stop signs or red lights at more than 1 mph. If drivers see us doing this, it makes cyclists look bad and gives drivers an excuse to take risks with our lives. Please, please do not contribute to this dynamic.
