UGMC to Sax via Ride for Choice route 42 mi *see group split announcement*

October 21 @ 9:00 am - 11:30 am

Planned Parenthood’s fundraiser Ride for Choice has gone virtual this year. This week we will ride the planned route for that ride (except we do not start/end in Carrboro). If any of you might want to make a contribution to them, here’s the link https://app.mobilecause.com/vf/RideforChoice20

Due to the pandemic, this ride is limited to 20 participants and RSVP IS REQUIRED for all riders. Bring a face mask for rest stops. If you sign up and find you cannot ride, please remove your name from the list so another rider can sign up.

The Weds Ride is a social ride of primarily B riders. We split at start into speeds of over 17 and under 17. Jim Bourg and Ken Pennoyer have agreed to share leading the faster riders.

Within the (my) slower B group, the following rules will apply:

We ride a double pace line, 1 min pulls, both riders fall off to the left. Despite this, there will always be riders stringing off the back, these rules only apply to paceline participants.
When you are on the front, especially, but also if you are within the paceline, your aim is to try to keep the group together.
On flats, no sustained pulls over 20 mph.
On hills, pedal hard downhill, (the aim is to ride hard enough so that not only are the riders behind the front not braking, but they are also able to pedal). Once momentum tapers, ride uphill at a reasonably slower climbing speed, i.e. 10 mph for any hill over 4 degrees.
When you finish a pull go fully to the back of the line. If you do not want to pedal hard down or you do not want to control your speed up, get out of the line to the left and fall to the back of the double line to return.
If separations in the line occur, wait at intersections to regroup.

If you cannot follow these guidelines and continue to blow up the group, you will be asked to ride with another (faster) group. I am trying to spare us both that conversation.

Even with these rules, we can (all) still have fun, still get a good workout.

Supply your own cue sheet or download the GPS file.
